I’ve been wearing the United Athle 5001-01 for about two years now. Recently, I bought another brand-new 5001-01, so I decided to compare the two and see how much the older shirt had changed over time.
How much does a United Athle 5001-01 actually change after two years of regular wear? Let’s take a look.

- Washing and drying: Washed regularly and dried in direct sunlight
Comparing the Two T-Shirts
Overall Appearance
The shirt on the left is brand new. The shirt on the right has been worn for about two years.
The first thing I noticed was the change in color. The older shirt has become noticeably duller and looks somewhat ivory compared with the new one.
I’m not exactly sure what caused the color change, but after two years of wear, washing, and sun-drying, it’s definitely noticeable.
The collar has also clearly stretched out. Let’s take a closer look.
Collar
This was the area with the biggest change.
The collar of the older shirt has stretched considerably, and the ribbing has become noticeably thinner. The stretched rib no longer returns to its original shape.
Eventually, the collar rib even tore. After two years of regular wear, the collar had clearly reached the end of its useful life.
Sleeves and Hem
The new shirt is on the left, and the older shirt is on the right.
Despite being worn for about two years, the sleeves have held up surprisingly well. There is no obvious fraying.
The hem also shows some signs of wear and loss of shape, but there is no major damage or fraying. Considering how often I wore this shirt, I was impressed by how well these areas held up.
Size Comparison
The new shirt is underneath, and the two-year-old shirt is on top.
As expected, the older shirt has become noticeably smaller. Here are the measurements:

All four measurements became smaller, so the shirt has shrunk fairly evenly overall.
In my experience, the older shirt is now roughly around the size of a new Medium.
Fabric Feel and Comfort
The new shirt has a firm, substantial feel while still being soft and comfortable. It has the structure I would expect from a new 5001-01.
The two-year-old shirt is completely different. It has become extremely soft, floppy, and relaxed. The fabric has lost much of its original firmness and now has a very soft, broken-in feel.
In fact, I’ve started using it as sleepwear. It’s extremely comfortable and puts almost no stress on the body.
So, after two years of wear, my 5001-01 has essentially entered its second life as a pajama shirt.
Conclusion
I wore the United Athle 5001-01 for about two years, roughly 2–3 times a week except during winter. Comparing it with a brand-new 5001-01 revealed some significant changes:
- The color became noticeably duller and more ivory-like.
- The collar stretched considerably.
- The collar rib eventually tore.
- The overall dimensions became smaller.
- The fabric changed from firm and structured to very soft, floppy, and worn-in.
- The sleeves and hem, however, showed surprisingly little fraying.
The collar was clearly the part that reached the end of its useful life first.
However, I didn’t throw the shirt away. After two years, it became incredibly comfortable, so it has found a second life as sleepwear.
In short, the 5001-01 changes noticeably after two years, but in my experience, it also becomes extremely comfortable and well suited to sleepwear.
